Welcome to College of San Mateo Athletic Center
Your community connection to education and fitness.
College of San Mateo Athletic Center is now under the direction of SMCCD and is excited to continue offering great facilities, programming and continuity of service. We thank you for including us in your daily wellness routine! Reflecting upon recent changes and the educational aspects of this unique facility, we are proud to place focus on the students who make the programming and facility offerings possible.
The experience you have on the fitness floor may feel different than other “workout centers.” That’s because our Professors of Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance also use the facility as a teaching lab.
The mix of students, athletes and dancers exercising side-by-side with community and faculty members makes this facility a dynamic and inspirational environment for fitness and aquatics. The benefits for members are many, yet we remind everyone to check the website daily for knowledge of pool lane availability, fitness floor availability, and Group Exercise schedules. Stay updated for possible changes due to our athletic team sports using the facility’s pools.
We encourage you to become your best, with newly designed Private Training, Semi-Private Training and Pilates Packages. Placing a focus on your personal excellence, the Athletic Center trainers are nationally certified and many are CSM students and graduates.
Having covered a few of the details, we look forward to having you enjoy your fellow members, staff, facility, and programs. Thank you for your energy and being a part of the collective upward spiraling!
– Kurt Scholler, Director of Auxiliary Services

Healthy Lifestyle and Learning
Students make decisions affecting their health and well-being every day, and those decisions often lead to habits that stay with them throughout their lives. Research shows that students who participate in physical activities on a regular basis learn new skills and improve performance, while gaining the self-discipline to excel in individual and group activities. Physical fitness promotes mental alertness and the ability to concentrate. Additionally, physical fitness helps students to manage stress and express emotions in healthy way, thus encouraging positive relations with family and peers.
Healthy Lifestyle and Productivity
There is no doubt that daily lifestyle practices exert a profound impact on short- and long-term health and quality of life. Moreover, recent data proves that there is a direct correlation between health and productivity: high levels of stress, excessive body weight, and health risk factors such as smoking, poor diet and substance abuse are associated with illness-related absenteeism and increased health care costs.
