Hours of Operation

What are the Athletic Center hours?
College of San Mateo Athletic Center is open to Members and Guests:
Monday – Friday: 6:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

When can I tour the College of San Mateo Athletic Center?
The Membership Office is open:
Monday – Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

 

Mask Policy

Are face coverings (masks) required?
Masks are recommended but not required within College of San Mateo Athletic Center and in any SMCCCD facility.

As a reminder, the updated masking requirements apply to all students, employees, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status. Masking requirement signage will be posted throughout all campuses.

San Mateo County’s current COVID Community Level is LOW. As the San Mateo County Community Level changes, updated information will be provided to students, employees, and visitors. SMCCCD continues to make face coverings (masks) available. Masks are located at various locations throughout all buildings. To track the San Mateo County’s COVID Community Level, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.

Membership

When can I join the College of San Mateo Athletic Center?
You can become a Member NOW!

What are the membership rates?
To learn about our membership rates, please call the College of San Mateo Athletic Center and speak to a Membership Representative at (650) 378-7373, or stop by the Athletic Center for a tour.

Are there any additional fees?
Additional fees will be assessed for personal training, small group training, special classes and the use of Pilates apparatus. There will be no additional fees assessed for Yoga, indoor cycling and Pilates mat classes.

Do I qualify for the Faculty/Staff membership plan?
The Faculty/Staff membership plan will be extended to individuals who are employed within the San Mateo County Community College District at one of the following campuses: College of San Mateo, Skyline College and Cañada College.

Do I qualify for the Senior Select membership plan?
The Senior Select membership plan will be extended to individuals who are age 62 or older.

If I turn 62 within the year, will you adjust my fees?
Please speak to our Membership Services staff when you turn 62 to initiate the change in your membership fees.

Do we qualify for the Senior Select Duo membership plan?
The Senior Select Duo membership plan will be extended when one individual is a senior and the other is not. Membership is limited to couples who are married or who are domestic partners. It does not apply to a senior and another adult living in the same household. Proof of residence is required.

Do I qualify for the Student Select membership plan?
The Student Select membership plan will be extended to students who are currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units per semester at any one college or combination of colleges: College of San Mateo, Skyline College or Cañada College.

How is student enrollment verified?
Students must present a current registration schedule to qualify for a Student Select membership. San Mateo Athletic Club will periodically cross-reference Student Memberships with the college enrollment system.

Do we qualify for the Student Select Duo membership plan?
The Student Select Duo membership plan will be extended when one individual is a student and the other is not. Membership is limited to those duos who are married or who are domestic partners. It does not apply to a student and another adult living in the same household. Proof of residence is required.

Do we qualify for the Family membership plan?
The Family membership plan will be extended to households with two adults, plus two children/dependents between the ages of 15-22 and living at the same household. A fee of $15.00 per month will be assessed for each additional child. Children between the ages of 15-17 must be accompanied by an adult unless enrolled in a supervised program.

Does the Athletic Center offer ‘Aquatics Only’ memberships?
The Athletic Center does not offer ‘Aquatics Only’ memberships. Guest day passes can be purchased by nonmembers for the purpose of working out or lap swimming. Guests must be over the age of 18 and present a valid photo I.D. All Guests are required to sign a liability waiver.

Are there options to “freeze” my membership for special circumstances?
“Freeze” options for special circumstances are defined in the Membership Agreement. The options start at a two-month minimum.

Are students allowed to use College of San Mateo Athletic Center?
We are an extension of the campus and an active classroom whereby classes for students are held on our fitness floor, in our pools and our group exercise studios. At times this means that some of these areas will be shared with students and at other times, areas may be reserved for students only.

 

Transportation and Parking

I am visiting the Athletic Center, where should I park?
Members and visitors may park in Lot B and Lot C. Please do not park in sections designated for staff to avoid a citation.

How does the Athletic Center accommodate parking?
Parking fees have been suspended for the 2022-2023 academic year. Parking fees will not be charged for: Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.

Can I access the Health & Wellness Building (Bldg. 5) by bus?
You can commute to the Athletic Center via SamTrans. The bus stop is on W. Hillsdale Boulevard near the District Office.

Will there be a bike rack at the Athletic Center?
Bike racks will be located in front of the Athletic Center’s main entrance.

Are bicycle commuters allowed to change in the locker room?
Only bicycle commuters with a College of San Mateo Athletic Center membership may change in the locker room.

 

Swim

What are the features of the swimming pools?
College of San Mateo Athletic Center has two outdoor swimming pools. Our Olympic pool: 50m / 78-80 degrees / maximum depth of 7 feet and our Instructional pool: 25 yards / 86-88 degrees / maximum depth of 4 feet.

How many lanes will be available for lap swimming?
We plan to have some lanes available for lap swimming during all hours of operation.

Will College of San Mateo offer swim classes at the Athletic Center?
The college will utilize the two outdoor swimming pools for instructional and sponsored programs.

Is there a College of San Mateo swim team?
Yes.

Will a Masters Swim Program be offered at some point in time?
Yes. We offer our ‘San Mateo Masters’ program for persons ages 19-99. Please contact our aquatics director for information: aquatics@smccd.edu.

Will lanes also be available for College of San Mateo Athletic Center members who are not participating in the Masters Program?
The Athletic Center will make every effort to assure that lap swimming lanes will be available to members who are not participating in the Masters Swim Program.

Is a poolside sundeck planned?
College of San Mateo Athletic Center has discussed the possibility of a poolside sundeck. No decision has been made at this time.

What chemical treatment is used in the swimming pools?

The Athletic Center uses chlorine to treat the swimming pools.

Will the Athletic Center provide swim programs for children?
Yes! We offer lessons year round for all ages and abilities.  Visit our Aquatics Website for more information. For more information about our Aquatics Programs please send an e-mail to: smac.aquatics@smccd.edu.

Is there handicap access to the two outdoor swimming pools?
There is a handicap lift for the swimming pools.

 

Guests

May guests utilize the Athletic Center facility?
Guests may utilize the Athletic Center facility if they are over the age of 18 and present a valid photo I.D. All guests are required to sign a liability waiver and must be accompanied by an Athletic Center member. The guest fee is $30.00 per visit. If the guest joins the Athletic Center within 30 days, the guests fee paid will be applied to the enrollment fee. IHRSA Members Fee is $10.00 per visit. Guest pass usage is tracked by the Athletic Center.

 

Children

Are children allowed in the Athletic Center?
Children 15 and over can be Members of the fitness center as part of a Family Membership but are permitted on the premises only when a parent is present. Children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the fitness center at any time. Children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the pool area except when registered in an age group swim program.

Does the Athletic Center provide childcare services?
The Athletic Center does not provide childcare services.

Does the Athletic Center provide swim programs for children?
The Athletic Center does provide swim lessons as well as swim teams for children. If you are interested in swim lessons/swim team, please contact Katie Elgaaen at (650)378-7381 or visit the Aquatics page for more details.

Are children allowed in the locker rooms?
Children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the Athletic Center or locker rooms. A changing area will be provided for children participating in swim classes.

 

Food and Beverage

Is there a Starbuck’s or café near the Athletic Center?
A coffee shop is located at the top of the stairs in the Health & Wellness Building (Bldg. 5). The shop will offer packaged food, salads and beverages.

Can food be brought into the Athletic Center from outside?
Outside food is not allowed at the College of San Mateo Athletic Center.

 

College of San Mateo

What is the environmental design of College of San Mateo Athletic Center?
As a demonstration of College of San Mateo’s commitment to sustainable building design and construction, the new Health & Wellness Building (Bldg. 5) is targeted to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

Is there access to the Adaptive Physical Education Room?
There will be access to the Adaptive Physical Education Room. The schedule has not yet been determined, but will most likely be in the afternoons and on weekends.

Will there be circuit classes in the weight room?
Circuit classes are currently offered by College of San Mateo as part of curriculum-based programming. Based on demand, College of San Mateo Athletic Center may offer circuit classes in the weight room as part of fitness programming.

Does college class enrollment grant access to College of San Mateo Athletic Center?
Students enrolled in college classes that are held at the Athletic Center will be granted access to the Athletic Center but only in the area(s) specified for the class.

 

Other

Where is the Admissions Office?
The Admissions Office is located up the main stairs in Building 10 – College Center.

Who owns College of San Mateo Athletic Center?
The Athletic Center is owned by the San Mateo County Community College District.
